Encensoir
Un thurible est un encensoir métallique suspendu aux chaînes, dans lequel l'encens est brûlé pendant les cultes. Il est utilisé dans les catholiques romains, anglo-catholiques, orthodoxes orientaux, orthodoxes orientaux, apostoliques arméniens, certains luthériens, anciens catholiques et dans diverses églises gnostiques. Il est également utilisé dans la franc-maçonnerie et dans la pratique de la magie cérémonielle. Dans les églises catholique, luthérienne et anglicane, le serveur d'autel qui porte le thurible s'appelle thurifer. Le fonctionnement d'un thurible est assez simple. Le charbon brûlant se trouve dans l'encensoir métallique. L'encens, parfois de nombreuses variétés différentes, est placé sur le charbon. Cela peut être fait plusieurs fois pendant le service car l'encens brûle assez rapidement. Une fois que l'encens a été placé sur le charbon, le thurible est ensuite fermé et utilisé pour l'encrassement. Un célèbre thurible est l'énorme Botafumeiro à la cathédrale de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, en Espagne Le mot «thurible» provient de l'ancienne thuribilité française, qui dérive à son tour du terme latin thuribulum. Le thuribulum latin est encore formé à partir de la racine, ce qui signifie encens.
