Le pyréthrum continue d'être utilisé comme nom commun pour les plantes anciennement incluses dans le genre Pyrethrum. Le pyréthrum est également le nom d'un insecticide naturel fabriqué à partir des têtes de fleurs séchées de Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium et Chrysanthemum coccineum.
