Structuralisme
Le structuralisme est un paradigme théorique de la sociologie, de l'anthropologie, de la linguistique et de la sémiotique posant que les éléments de la culture humaine doivent être compris en fonction de leur relation avec un système ou une structure plus vaste et plus vaste. Cela permet de découvrir les structures qui sous-tendent toutes les choses que les humains font, pensent, perçoivent et ressentent. Alternativement, comme l'a résumé le philosophe Simon Blackburn, le structuralisme est «la conviction que les phénomènes de la vie humaine ne sont pas intelligibles que par leurs interrelations. Ces relations constituent une structure et, derrière les variations locales des phénomènes de surface, des lois constantes de la culture abstraite». Le structuralisme est né au début des années 1900, dans la linguistique structurale de Ferdinand de Saussure et les écoles de linguistique de Prague, de Moscou et de Copenhague. À la fin des années 1950 et au début des années 60, lorsque la linguistique structurale faisait face à de sérieux défis de Noam Chomsky et qui s'effaçait en importance, un éventail de chercheurs en sciences humaines empruntaient les concepts de Saussure pour les utiliser dans leurs domaines d'études respectifs.
