जिराफ संज्ञा पुं० [अ० जिराफ़ या जराफ़] घास के मैदानों का एक वन्य पशु । विशेष—यह अफ्रीका तथा दक्षिण अमरीका के घास के मैदानों में झुंड़ों में फिरा करता हैं । इसके पैरों में खुर होते हैं और इसका अगला धड़ पिछले से भारी होता है । गरदन इसकी ऊँट की सी लंबी होती है । यह अठारह फुट ऊँचा होता है । इसमें सिर पर दो छोटे छोटे सींग होते हैं जो रोएँदार चमड़े से ढके रहते हैं । इसकी आँखें सुंदर और उभड़ी होती हैं, जिनसे यह बिना सिर मोड़े पीछे देख सकता है । इसकी नाक की बनावट कुछ ऐसी होती है कि यह जब चाहे उसे बंद कर सकता हैं । जीभ इसकी इतनी लंबी होती है कि यह उसे मुँह से सत्रह इंच बाहर निकाल सकता है । इसकी शरीर पर हिरन के से रोएँ और बड़ी बड़ी चित्तियाँ होती हैं । यह ताड़ों और खजुरों की पत्तियाँ खाता हैं ।
