Anfora
L'anfora è un tipo di contenitore di forma e dimensione caratteristici, che discende da almeno il periodo neolitico. Anfore sono state utilizzate in larga misura per il trasporto e lo stoccaggio di vari prodotti, sia liquidi che asciutti, ma soprattutto per il vino. È più spesso ceramica, ma sono stati trovati esempi di metalli e altri materiali. L'anfora integra il grande contenitore di stoccaggio, il pithos, che mette a disposizione capacità tra una mezza e due e mezzo tonnellate. Al contrario, l'anfora si trova sotto una mezza tonnellata, in genere meno di 100 libbre. I corpi dei due tipi hanno forme simili. Dove i petti possono avere più piccoli fori o perni per fissare un cablaggio di fune, l'anfora ha due maniglie espansive che si uniscono alla spalla del corpo e un collo lungo. I colli di pithoi sono larghi per l'accesso alla scooping o alla benna. I collo degli anfora sono stretti per versare da una persona che lo tiene al fondo e una maniglia. Esistono alcune varianti. Le maniglie potrebbero non essere presenti. La dimensione può richiedere a due o tre gestori di sollevare.
