CHE SIGNIFICA MULTIDENTATE IN INGLESE
Denticity
La iden- tità si riferisce al numero di atomi in un singolo ligando che si lega ad un atomo centrale in un complesso di coordinamento. In molti casi, solo un atomo nel legante si lega al metallo, quindi la denticità è uguale a quella, e si dice che il legante sia monodentato. Ligandi con più di un atomo legato sono chiamati polydentate o multidentate. La parola denticity deriva da dentis, la parola latina per il dente. Il legante è pensato come mordere il metallo in uno o più punti di collegamento. La denticità di un ligando è descritta con la lettera greca κ. Ad esempio, κ6-EDTA descrive un ligando EDTA che coordina attraverso 6 atomi non contigui. L'identità è diversa dall'apatticità perché l'hapticity si riferisce esclusivamente a ligandi dove gli atomi di coordinamento sono contigui. In questi casi viene usata la notazione η. I leganti di ponte usano la notazione μ.
