Intercropping adalah amalan pertumbuhan dua atau lebih tanaman dalam jarak dekat. Penanaman lorong Inga telah dicadangkan sebagai alternatif kepada pemusnahan ekologi ladang slash-and-burn. Apabila tanaman dipilih dengan teliti, manfaat agronomi lain juga dapat dicapai. Tumbuh-tumbuhan yang terdedah kepada persendian, yang terdedah kepada angin atau hujan lebat, boleh diberikan sokongan struktur oleh tanaman sahabat mereka. Creepers juga boleh mendapat manfaat daripada sokongan struktur. Sesetengah tumbuhan digunakan untuk menindas rumput atau menyediakan nutrien. Tumbuh-tumbuhan yang halus atau sensitif cahaya boleh diberi teduhan atau perlindungan, atau ruang yang sia-sia dapat digunakan.
