Kancing gigi atau juga dikenali sebagai
tetanus, mempunyai tanda-tanda seperti kekejangan otot yang menyakitkan. Ia merupakan keadaan perubatan berciri-ciri oleh pengucupan berpanjangan fiber otot kerangka. Simptom utama disebabkan oleh tetanospasmin, neurotoksin yang dihasilkan oleh Bakterium anearobik obligate Gram-positif
Clostridium tetani. Jangkitan biasanya berlaku melalui jangkitan luka dan sering kali membabitkan cedera luka atau tusukan dalam. Ketika jangkitan berlaku, kekejangan otot berlaku pada rahang dan di tempat lain pada badan. Jangkitan boleh dielakkan melalui pelalian yang betul dan prophylaxis selepas dedahan. Kancing gigi merupakan sejenis penyakit berbahaya yang boleh membawa maut dan menjadi punca utama kematian di Asia dan Afrika. Clostridium tetani dijangkiti melalui manusia, kuda dan haiwan berdarah panas. Saluran usus, luka dan spora, tanah, najis mengandungi bakteria ini. Risiko penyakit ini amat tinggi jika kecederaan berpunca daripada objek runcing dan tajam seperti jarum atau duri pokok yang tercemar yang berkemungkinan mencucuk spora jauh ke dalam kulit.
