Baron - seorang bangsawan, seorang Baroness, adalah Baroness atau baroness. Judul Baron adalah gelaran bangsawan yang paling rendah. Di Jerman, yang awalnya dikenali sebagai Freiherr, sebuah gelaran feudal, kemudian juga diberi gelaran bangsawan baron, dengan setiap pengembaraan menjadi baron, tetapi tidak setiap baron Jerman adalah bebas. W Anglii początkowo tożsamy z tytułem lorda, oznaczał pana feudalnego zasiadającego w radzie królewskiej. Słowo wywodzi się hiszpańskiego słowa barón, pochodzącego z kolei od frankońskiego baro oznaczającego „wojownik, wolny człowiek”. Używany we wszystkich monarchiach europejskich, wprowadzony także w ramach europeizacji w erze Meiji w cesarstwie japońskim. Przyjęty również do tytułów nadawanych w cesarstwie francuskim przez Napoleona I. Tytułu barona nie należy mylić z podobnie brzmiącym brytyjskim tytułem baroneta, który nie jest tytułem arystokratycznym, ale dziedzicznym tytułem niższej szlachty. Korona rangowa przysługująca baronom jest najczęściej ozdobiona siedmioma perłami (pałkami), niekiedy ma inne formy, np.
