Ceanothus L. / ˌsiːənoʊθəs / é um gênero de cerca de 50-60 espécies de arbustos ou pequenas árvores na família Rhamnaceae. O gênero é confinado à América do Norte, com o centro de sua distribuição na Califórnia. Algumas espécies são encontradas no leste dos Estados Unidos e no sudeste do Canadá, e outras se estendem tão ao sul quanto a Guatemala. A maioria são arbustos de 0,5 a 3 m de altura, mas C. arboreus e C. thyrsiflorus, ambos da Califórnia, podem ser pequenas árvores de até 6-7 m de altura. O nome é derivado da palavra grega κεανοθος, que foi aplicada por Theophrastus a uma espinhosa planta do Velho Mundo que se acredita ser Cirsium arvense.
