Comecon
O Conselho de Assistência Econômica Mútua foi uma organização econômica de 1949 a 1991, sob a liderança da União Soviética, que compreendeu os países do Bloco Oriental, juntamente com vários estados socialistas em outros lugares do mundo. O Comecon foi a resposta do Bloco Oriental à formação da Organização para a Cooperação Econômica Europeia na Europa Ocidental. O termo descritivo foi freqüentemente aplicado a todas as atividades multilaterais envolvendo membros da organização, em vez de restringir-se às funções diretas do Comecon e seus órgãos. Esse uso às vezes se estendeu às relações bilaterais entre os membros, porque no sistema de relações econômicas internacionais socialistas, os acordos multilaterais - tipicamente de natureza geral - tendiam a ser implementados através de um conjunto de acordos bilaterais mais detalhados. Segundo alguns historiadores, Moscou estava preocupada com o Plano Marshall.
