Geminal
Em química, o termo geminal refere-se à relação entre dois átomos ou grupos funcionais que estão ligados ao mesmo átomo. A palavra vem do gemini latino que significa "gêmeos". Um diol geminal, por exemplo, é um diol ligado ao mesmo átomo de carbono, como no metanodiol. O prefixo gem também pode ser aplicado a um nome químico para denotar esse relacionamento, como em um gem-dibromide para "dibrometo geminal". O conceito é importante em muitos ramos da química, incluindo a síntese e a espectroscopia, porque os grupos funcionais ligados ao mesmo átomo muitas vezes se comportam de maneira diferente quando são separados.
