A lei de Ohm afirma que a corrente através de um condutor entre dois pontos é diretamente proporcional à diferença de potencial entre os dois pontos. Apresentando a constante de proporcionalidade, a resistência, chega-se à equação matemática usual que descreve essa relação: onde eu é a corrente através do condutor em unidades de amperes, V é a diferença de potencial medida através do condutor em unidades de volts e R é a resistência do condutor em unidades de ohmios. Mais especificamente, a lei de Ohm afirma que o R nesta relação é constante, independente da atualidade. A lei foi nomeada após o físico alemão Georg Ohm, que, em um tratado publicado em 1827, descreveu medidas de tensão e corrente aplicadas através de circuitos elétricos simples contendo vários comprimentos de fio. Ele apresentou uma equação um pouco mais complexa do que a anterior para explicar seus resultados experimentais. A equação acima é a forma moderna da lei de Ohm. Na física, o termo Lei de Ohm também é usado para se referir a várias generalizações da lei originalmente formuladas por Ohm.

Ohm's law states that the current through a conductor between two points is directly proportional to the potential difference across the two points. Introducing the constant of proportionality, the resistance, one arrives at the usual mathematical equation that describes this relationship: where I is the current through the conductor in units of amperes, V is the potential difference measured across the conductor in units of volts, and R is the resistance of the conductor in units of ohms. More specifically, Ohm's law states that the R in this relation is constant, independent of the current. The law was named after the German physicist Georg Ohm, who, in a treatise published in 1827, described measurements of applied voltage and current through simple electrical circuits containing various lengths of wire. He presented a slightly more complex equation than the one above to explain his experimental results. The above equation is the modern form of Ohm's law. In physics, the term Ohm's law is also used to refer to various generalizations of the law originally formulated by Ohm.
