Transversão
Na biologia molecular, a transversão refere-se à substituição de uma purina por uma pirimidina ou vice-versa. Só pode ser revertida por uma reversão espontânea. Como esse tipo de mutação muda a estrutura química dramaticamente, as conseqüências dessa mudança tendem a ser mais drásticas que as transições. Isso ocorre porque a posição de bamboleo do DNA, que em larga medida é responsável pela degeneração do código, é mais tolerante à transição do que a uma transversão, de modo que uma mutação de transição é mais provável que leve ao mesmo aminoácido que está sendo codificado para. As transversões podem ser causadas por radiação ionizante e agentes de alquilação.
