Hemoglobina (encurtamento: Hb) é uma molécula de proteína nos glóbulos vermelhos que se combinam com oxigênio e dióxido de carbono para serem transportados pelo sistema circulatório para os tecidos do corpo. O íon de ferro na forma de Fe + 2 na hemoglobina dá sangue vermelho no sangue. Em circunstâncias normais, 100 ml de sangue contém 15 gramas de hemoglobina capaz de transportar 0,03 gramas de oxigênio. O nível de hemoglobina é geralmente determinado como o número de hemoglobina em gramas (gm) para cada decaliter (100 mililitros).
