baníță (bánițe), s. f. – Unitate veche de măsură de capacitate pentru cereale, de valoare diferită după epoci și regiuni, dar în general egală cu 20 ocale (adică 0,215 hl în
Mold., 0,339 hl în
Munt.). De la introducerea sistemului metric, se numește de obicei astfel măsura de 20 litri, pentru cereale.
Sl. banja „baie, vas rotund”, cu
dim. banica, de unde
bg. banica „vas, vapor” (Cihac; DAR). Semantismul
rom., care nu apare în
sl., se explică prin forma curentă a vasului care servește ca măsură.
