Dodo
Dodo este o pasăre dispărută, care a fost endemică pe insula Mauritius, la est de Madagascar, în Oceanul Indian. Cea mai apropiată relație genetică a fost și soldatul Rodrigues, care a dispărut, cei doi care formează subfamilia Raphinae din familia porumbeilor și porumbeilor. Cea mai apropiata ruda vie a dodo-ului este porumbelul Nicobar. Un dodo alb a fost considerat o dată în mod incorect pe insula Réunion din apropiere. Ramurile de subfossil arată că dodo era de aproximativ 1 metru înălțime și poate cântări 10-18 kg în sălbăticie. Apariția lui dodo în viață este evidențiată doar prin desene, picturi și conturi scrise din secolul al XVII-lea.
