Un dragon este o creatură legendară, de obicei cu trăsături serpentine sau reptiliene, care apar în miturile multor culturi. Există două tradiții culturale distincte ale dragonilor: dragonul european, derivat din tradițiile folclorice europene și în cele din urmă legat de mitologia greacă și din Orientul Mijlociu, și dragonul chinez, cu omologii din Japonia, Coreea și alte țări din Asia de Est. Cele două tradiții au evoluat separat, dar s-au influențat reciproc într-o oarecare măsură, în special cu contactul intercultural dintre secolele recente. Cuvântul englez "dragon" provine de la dragonii greci, "dragon, șarpe de dimensiuni mari, șarpe de apă".

Prima definiție a dragonului în dicționar este un monstru mitic, reprezentat de obicei ca un foc de respirație și având un corp reptilienos, aripi, gheare și o coadă lungă. O altă definiție a dragonului este o persoană feroce sau nerealizabilă, mai ales o femeie. Dragonul este, de asemenea, oricare dintre diferitele șopârle foarte mari, în special dragonul Komodo.
