Sistemul eutectic
Un sistem eutectic din grecul "ευ" și "Τψξις" este un amestec de compuși chimici sau elemente care au o singură compoziție chimică care se solidifică la o temperatură mai scăzută decât orice altă compoziție formată din aceleași ingrediente. Această compoziție este cunoscută sub denumirea de compoziție eutectică, iar temperatura la care se solidifică este cunoscută ca temperatura eutectică. Pe o diagramă de fază, intersecția temperaturii eutectice și a compoziției eutectice dă punctul eutectic. Masele non-eutectice vor afișa solidificarea unei componente a amestecului înainte de cealaltă. Nu toate aliajele binare au un punct eutectic; de exemplu, în sistemul de argint-argint, temperatura topiturii și temperatura de îngheț cresc în mod monoton, pe măsură ce amestecul se schimbă de la argintul pur la aurul pur.
