Pinus palustris, cunoscut sub numele de Pin Longleaf, este un pin originar din sud-estul Statelor Unite, aflat de-a lungul câmpiei de coastă din estul Texasului până în sud-estul Virginiei, care se extinde în nordul și centrul Florida. Ea atinge o înălțime de 30-35 m și un diametru de 0,7 m. În trecut, acestea au crescut până la 47 m cu un diametru de 1,2 m. Coaja este groasă, roșiatic-maronie și scaldă. Frunzele sunt verde închis și acul asemănător și apar în mănunchiuri de trei. Ele sunt adesea răsucite și cu lungimea de 20-45 cm. Acesta este unul dintre cele două pini din sud-estul SUA, cu ace lungi, cealaltă fiind pinul tăiat. Ace de pin lung de la o specimen de 30 m lângă Tallahassee, Florida Conurile, atât conuri de semințe de sex feminin, cât și conuri de polen masculin, sunt inițiate în timpul sezonului de creștere înainte de apariția mugurilor. Conurile de polen încep să se formeze în muguri în luna iulie, în timp ce serurile de semințe se formează într-o perioadă relativ scurtă de timp în luna august. Polenizarea apare devreme în primăvara următoare, cu conuri de sex masculin de 3-8 cm lungime.
