Raffia palmă
Palmele Raffia sunt un gen de douăzeci de specii de palmieri originari din regiuni tropicale din Africa, în special din Madagascar, cu o specie care apare și în America Centrală și de Sud. Ei cresc până la 16 m înălțime și sunt remarcabili pentru frunzele lor compuse din frunze, cele mai lungi din regatul plantelor; sunt cunoscute frunzele de R. regalis cu lungimea de până la 25 m și lățimea de 3 m. Plantele sunt monocarpice, înfloresc odată și apoi mor după ce semințele sunt mature sau hapaxante, cu tulpini individuale care mor după fruct, dar sistemul rădăcină rămâne în viață și trimite tulpini noi.
