Soffit, în arhitectură, descrie partea inferioară a oricărui element de construcție. Exemple de sufragerii includ: ▪ partea inferioară a unui arc sau a unei arhitecturi; ▪ partea inferioară a unui zbor de scări, sub entablatura clasică; ▪ partea inferioară a unei cornișe proeminente sau partea coșului; ▪ partea inferioară a unui tavan pentru umplerea spațiului deasupra dulapurilor de bucătărie, la colțul tavanului și peretelui, ▪ suprafața inferioară expusă a oricărei secțiuni exterioare a unei acoperișuri. ▪ peretele în care sunt montate difuzoarele într-un studio de înregistrare. ▪ o cutie drop-down utilizată pentru a monta o hota de ventilație în bucătărie sub un plafon înclinat sau înalt. În cazul utilizării populare, cel mai adesea se referă la materialul care formează un plafon de la partea superioară a unui perete al casei exterioare până la marginea exterioară a acoperișului, și anume legătura dintre peretele de acasă și linia de acoperiș, cunoscută și sub denumirea de streașină.
