O strophe este un termen poetic care se referă inițial la prima parte a oe în tragedia greacă veche, urmată de antistrop și epod. Termenul a fost extins astfel încât să însemne și o diviziune structurală a unui poem care conține stanzuri cu o lungime diferită a liniei. În poezii compuse din unități similare, cum ar fi poezii epice, termenul strophic este sinonim cu stanzaic. În stilul său original grecesc, "strophe, antistrophe și epod au fost un fel de stâncă încadrată numai pentru muzică", după cum scria John Milton în prefața lui Samson Agonistes, cu capul scandat de un cor grec, care se mișca de la dreapta la stânga de-a lungul scenei.
