Sözlü aritmetik
Alfametics, cryptarithmetic, crypt-aritmetik, cryptarithm veya kelime ekleme olarak da bilinen sözlü aritmetik, bilinmeyen sayıları, sayıları harflerle temsil edilen matematiksel bir denklemi içeren bir tür matematik oyunudur. Hedef, her mektubun değerini belirlemektir. Adı, harfler yerine alfabetik olmayan semboller kullanan bulmacalara da genişletilebilir. Denklem genellikle aritmetik temel bir işlemdir (ekleme, çarpma veya bölme gibi). Henry Dudeney'nin Strand Magazine'in Temmuz 1924 sayısında yayınlanan klasik örnek şudur: Bu bulmacanın çözümü O = 0, M = 1, Y = 2, E = 5, N = 6, D = 7, R = 8 ve S = 9.
