Ön seçim, siyasi bir görev için yapılan bir seçime itiraz etmek için genellikle bir siyasi parti tarafından seçilen bir adayın süreci. Buna ayrıca aday seçimi adı verilir. Bu siyasi partilerin temel bir fonksiyonudur. Westminster tarzı sorumlu devleti benimseyen ülkelerde, ön seçim, aynı zamanda yürütmede bir pozisyona giden yolda atılan ilk adımdır. Seçim ters prosedür: siyasi parti, bir sonraki seçimlerinde seçtikleri mülk sahiplerinden birinin desteğini geri çekiyor. Parti daha sonra yeni bir yedek adayı seçebilir veya bu koltuğa itiraz etmekten vazgeçebilir. Seçimi kaldırılan temsilci, seçimlere Bağımsız olarak veya bir başka tarafın temsilcisi olarak hala itiraz etmekte özgürdür.
