Akışkanlaştırma sıvılaştırmaya benzer bir işlemdir ve granüler bir malzeme statik katı-benzeri bir durumdan dinamik bir sıvı benzeri duruma dönüştürülür. Bu işlem, bir sıvı granüler materyalden geçirildiğinde oluşur. Bir gaz akışı katı parçacıkların bir yatağının dibinden sokulduğunda, parçacıklar arasındaki boş alanlar yoluyla yatak boyunca yukarı doğru ilerleyecektir.
