Bir telefon hattı, son cihaz kapalı kanca olduğunda kullanıcı tarafından ek bir işlem yapılmadan otomatik olarak önceden seçilmiş hedefe yönlendirilen bir noktadan noktaya iletişim hattıdır. Buna bir örnek, alıcının alınmasıyla acil servislere otomatik olarak bağlanan bir telefon olacaktır. Bu nedenle, özel telefon hattı telefonlarının döner tuş veya tuş takımına ihtiyaçları yoktur.
