Spastik sözcüğü, kullanımının coğrafi konumuna ve orada kullanılan İngilizce dilinin sürümüne bağlı olarak farklı kullanılır, bu da, sözcüğün doğasına ve uygunluğuna dair bazı tartışmalara ve yanlış anlamalara neden olmuştur.
