Standart hata, bir istatistiğin örnekleme dağılımının standart sapmasıdır. Bu terim, tahmini hesaplamak için kullanılan belirli bir numuneden türetilmiş olan bu standart sapmanın tahmini için de kullanılabilir. Örneğin örneklem ortalaması, bir nüfus ortalamasının olağan tahmincisidir.
