Üçüncü dünya
Üçüncü Dünya terimi Soğuk Savaş döneminde ya NATO ya da Komünist Bloku ile uyumlu olmayan ülkeleri tanımlamak için ortaya çıktı. Bu terminoloji, Dünyanın uluslarını genel olarak sosyal, politik, kültürel ve ekonomik ayrımlara dayalı üç gruba ayırmanın bir yolunu sağlamıştır. Üçüncü Dünya'nın normalde Afrika, Latin Amerika, Okyanusya ve Asya'da sömürge geçmişleri olan birçok ülke içerdiği görülmüştür. Bazen, Hizalanmış Olmayan Hareketi'ndeki ülkelerle eşanlamlı olarak alındı. Raul Prebisch, Walter Rodney, Theotonio dos Santos ve Andre Gunder Frank gibi düşünürlerin bağımlılık kuramı olarak da adlandırılan Üçüncü Dünya, dünya ekonomik bölümüne, dünya sisteminde "çevre" ülkeleri olarak egemen olan "çekirdek" ülkeler. Gelişmekte olan anlamların ve bağlamların karmaşık geçmişi nedeniyle, Üçüncü Dünya'nın net veya kesin üzerinde bir tanım bulunmamaktadır. Küba gibi Komünist Blok'taki bazı ülkeler sık sık "Üçüncü Dünya" olarak görülüyordu.
