Колоїдний
Колоїд являє собою речовину, що мікроскопічно диспергована по всій іншій речовині. Частки дисперсної фази мають діаметр від приблизно 1 до 1000 нм. Такі частинки, як правило, легко видно в оптичному мікроскопі, хоча в менших розмірах можуть знадобитися ультрамікроскопи або електронний мікроскоп. Однорідні суміші з дисперсною фазою в такому розмірі можуть бути названі колоїдними аерозолями, колоїдними емульсіями, колоїдними пінопластами, колоїдними дисперсіями або гідрозолями. Частки дисперсних фаз або краплі значною мірою впливають на поверхневу хімію, присутня в колоїді. Деякі колоїди є напівпрозорими через ефект Тиндаля, який полягає у розсіюванні світла частинками в колоїді. Інші колоїди можуть бути непрозорими або невеликим кольором. Колоїдні суспензії є предметом інтерфейсу та колоїдної науки. Ця область вивчення була введена в 1861 році шотландським вченим Томасом Греєм. Визначення colloid у англійська словнику
Перше визначення колоїду в словнику називається також: колоїдним розчином, колоїдною суспензією. суміш, що містить частинки одного компонента, діаметром від 10-7 і 10-9 метрів, суспендована в безперервній фазі іншого компонента. Суміш має властивості між розчинами і тонкою суспензією. Інше визначення колоїду являє собою тверду суспендовану фазу в такій суміші. Колоїд також є желатиновидною речовиною фолікулів щитовидної залози, яка тримає гормональні секреції щитовидної залози.
