Die Vereinten Nationen, englisch United Nations, häufig auch UNO für United Nations Organization, sind ein zwischenstaatlicher Zusammenschluss von 193 Staaten und als globale internationale Organisation ein uneingeschränkt anerkanntes Völkerrechtssubjekt. Die wichtigsten Aufgaben der Organisation sind gemäß ihrer Charta die Sicherung des Weltfriedens, die Einhaltung des Völkerrechts, der Schutz der Menschenrechte und die Förderung der internationalen Zusammenarbeit. Im Vordergrund stehen außerdem Unterstützung im wirtschaftlichen, sozialen und humanitären Gebiet. Die Vereinten Nationen selbst, sowie viele ihrer Unterorganisationen haben für ihre Verdienste den Friedensnobelpreis erhalten und sind zusammen die am häufigsten ausgezeichneten Preisträger.
