একটি বাজার একটি বাজার: এবং মধ্য ফার্সী শব্দ বাহরার উৎপত্তি; একটি স্থায়ী ঘিরা বাণিজ্যদ্রব্য এলাকা, বাজারের দোকান বা দোকানের রাস্তা যেখানে পণ্য ও পরিষেবা বিনিময় বা বিক্রি হয়। একটি খোলা-এয়ার মার্কেটপ্লেস বা বাণিজ্যিক ত্রৈমাসিকের জন্য মিডিয়াল ইস্টে ব্যবহৃত আরেকটি শব্দ সউক। বার্বার বাজারটি কখনও কখনও "এলাকার ব্যবসায়ীরা, ব্যাংকার্স এবং কারিগরদের নেটওয়ার্ক" উল্লেখ করার জন্য ব্যবহার করা হয়। যদিও শব্দটির বর্তমান অর্থটি পারস্যের উৎপত্তি বলে মনে করা হলেও, এর ব্যবহারটি ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে এবং এখন সারা বিশ্বে দেশগুলিতে স্থানীয় ভাষায় গ্রহণ করা হয়েছে। মুসলিম বিশ্বের বৃহৎ বাজার ও স্টক ট্রেডিং সেন্টারের উত্থানের ফলে নতুন রাজধানী তৈরির এবং শেষ পর্যন্ত নতুন সাম্রাজ্য তৈরি হয়। বাণিজ্য পথ ও বাজারের পাশাপাশি ইস্পাহান, গোলকুন্ডা, সমরকান্দ, কায়রো, বাগদাদ ও তিমবকুতুর মত নতুন এবং ধনী শহরগুলি প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। রাস্তার বাজার এবং আর্কডেড ইউরোপীয় এবং উত্তর আমেরিকান সমতুল্য।
