প্রাকৃতিকীকরণ হল আইনী আইন বা প্রক্রিয়া যার মাধ্যমে কোনও নাগরিক নাগরিককে সেই দেশের নাগরিকত্ব বা জাতীয়তা অর্জন করতে পারে। এটি একটি সংবিধান দ্বারা সম্পন্ন হতে পারে, ব্যক্তির কোন প্রচেষ্টা ছাড়া, অথবা এটি আইনি কর্তৃপক্ষের দ্বারা একটি আবেদন এবং অনুমোদন অন্তর্ভুক্ত হতে পারে। ন্যাচারাইজেশন এর নিয়ম দেশ থেকে ভিন্ন এবং সাধারণত একটি ন্যূনতম আইনী আবাসনের প্রয়োজন অন্তর্ভুক্ত করে, এবং জাতীয় প্রাদেশিক ভাষা বা সংস্কৃতির জ্ঞানের মতো অন্যান্য প্রয়োজনীয়তা যেমন, দেশের আইন মেনে চলার এবং সমর্থন করার প্রতিশ্রুতি দেয়। একটি শপথ বা আনুগত্য অঙ্গীকার এছাড়াও কখনও কখনও প্রয়োজন হয়। কিছু দেশে এমনও হতে পারে যে ব্যক্তি অন্য নাগরিকত্বকে প্রত্যাখ্যান করে যা বর্তমানে তারা ধরে রাখে, দ্বৈত নাগরিকত্বের বিরুদ্ধে নিষেধাজ্ঞা আরোপ করে, কিন্তু এই প্রত্যাহারটি আসলে ব্যক্তির মূল নাগরিকত্বের ক্ষতির কারণ হয়ে দাঁড়ায়, যেমনটি হোস্ট দেশ এবং মূল দেশ দ্বারা দেখা যায়, আবারও তার উপর নির্ভর করবে অন্তর্ভুক্ত দেশের আইন বিশ্বায়নের ফলে জনসংখ্যা বৃদ্ধির ব্যাপক বৃদ্ধি এবং প্রথম বিশ্বযুদ্ধের পর শরণার্থীদের সংখ্যায় তীব্র বৃদ্ধি ঘটেছে এমন একটি সংখ্যক রাজ্যহীন মানুষ, যারা যে কোন রাষ্ট্রের নাগরিক ছিল না।
