প্যালেস্টাইন ন্যাশনাল অথরিটি 1993 সালের অসলো অ্যাকর্ডের ফলে ওয়েস্ট ব্যাংকের গাজা অঞ্চল এবং গাজার অঞ্চল A এবং B শাসিত প্রতিষ্ঠিত অন্তর্বর্তী স্ব-সরকার। ২006 সালের পরবর্তী নির্বাচনে এবং পরবর্তীতে গাজার ফাতাহ ও হামাস দলগুলোর মধ্যে সংঘর্ষের ফলে তার কর্তৃত্ব পশ্চিম তীর পর্যন্ত বিস্তৃত ছিল। জাতিসংঘের একটি সদস্য জাতিসংঘ পর্যবেক্ষক রাষ্ট্র হিসেবে ফিলিস্তিনকে স্বীকৃতি দেওয়ার জন্য জাতিসংঘের ভোটের পর ২013 সালের জানুয়ারির পর থেকে ফাতাহ-নিয়ন্ত্রিত ফিলিস্তিনি কর্তৃপক্ষ নিজ নিজ দেশে প্যালেস্টাইন রাষ্ট্র হিসাবে পুনর্নির্মাণ করেছে। প্যালেস্টাইন কর্তৃপক্ষ গঠিত হয়েছিল 1994 সালে, প্যালেস্টাইন লিবারেশন অর্গানাইজেশন এবং ইসরায়েলের সরকার, পাঁচ বছরের অন্তর্বর্তীকালীন সংস্থা হিসাবে, অসলো চুক্তিগুলির ভিত্তিতে। তারপরেই আলোচনায় দুই পক্ষের মধ্যে তার চূড়ান্ত অবস্থার বিষয়ে সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়। ২013 সালের হিসাবে, কর্তৃপক্ষ গঠনের পর আঠারো বছরেরও বেশি সময় ধরে এই অবস্থাটি এখনো পৌঁছে যায়নি। অসলো অ্যাকর্ডের মতে, ফিলিস্তিনি কর্তৃপক্ষের মধ্যে প্যালেস্টাইনি কর্তৃপক্ষকে নিরাপত্তা সংক্রান্ত ও বেসামরিক সমস্যা ও ফিলিস্তিনি গ্রামীণ এলাকায় শুধুমাত্র বেসামরিক নিয়ন্ত্রণের উপর একচেটিয়া নিয়ন্ত্রণের জন্য মনোনীত করা হয়েছিল।
