উদ্ভিদ জীবাণু নাইট্রোজেন-ফিক্সিং ব্যাকটেরিয়া সঙ্গে সহযোগী যে উদ্ভিদের শিকড় নেভিগেশন root নুডুলস ঘটতে। নাইট্রোজেন-সীমিত অবস্থার অধীনে, সক্ষম উদ্ভিদ রঞ্জোবিয়া নামে পরিচিত একটি ব্যাক্টেরিয়ার হোস্ট ভিত্তিক স্ট্রেনের সাথে একটি সিম্বিয়িক সম্পর্ক তৈরি করে। এই প্রক্রিয়া Fabaceae মধ্যে একাধিক বার প্রসূত হয়েছে, পাশাপাশি Rosid clade মধ্যে পাওয়া অন্যান্য প্রজাতি হিসাবে। কুমড়া নোডলসে, বায়ুমণ্ডল থেকে নাইট্রোজেন গ্যাস আমোনীয় রূপান্তরিত হয়, যা পরে অ্যামিনো অ্যাসিড, নিউক্লিওটাইড এবং ভিটামিন, ফ্লেভোনস এবং হরমোনের মত অন্যান্য সেলুলার উপাদানগুলির মধ্যে অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয়। নাইট্রোজেন সারের জন্য তাদের প্রয়োজন হ্রাস হিসাবে গ্যাসীয় নাইট্রোজেন সংশোধন করার তাদের ক্ষমতা legumes একটি আদর্শ কৃষি জীব তোলে তোলে। প্রকৃতপক্ষে উচ্চ নাইট্রোজেন সামগ্রী ব্লক অনুষদ বিকাশ করে কারণ মিথস্ক্রিয়া গঠনের উদ্ভিদটির কোন উপকার নেই। নুডুলস নাইট্রোজেন গ্যাস বিভাজন জন্য শক্তি চিনি থেকে আসে যে পাতা থেকে translocated হয় স্যাক্রোসের বিভাজক পণ্য হিসাবে মালটেড হল ব্যাকটেরিয়াতে সরাসরি কার্বন উৎস। নুডুলস মধ্যে নাইট্রোজেন স্থিরতা খুব অক্সিজেন সংবেদনশীল।
