সোভিয়েতীকরণটি শব্দটি দুটি স্বতন্ত্র অর্থের সাথে ব্যবহার করা যেতে পারে: ▪ সোভিয়েত মডেলের উপর ভিত্তি করে একটি রাজনৈতিক ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করা। সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়নের পরে মডেল এবং জীবনের মানসিকতার একটি উপায় গ্রহণ। পূর্ব ইউরোপের দ্বিতীয় বিশ্বযুদ্ধের সময় ও পরে সোভিয়েতীকরণের একটি উল্লেখযোগ্য তরঙ্গ ঘটেছিল। একটি বিস্তৃত অর্থে, এটি জাতীয় পর্যায়ে এবং ছোট সম্প্রদায়গুলিতে সোভিয়েত মত প্রতিষ্ঠান, আইন, রীতিনীতি, ঐতিহ্য এবং সোভিয়েত জীবনধারার অন্তর্ভুক্তি অন্তর্ভুক্ত করেছে। সোভিয়েত অঞ্চলের প্রভাবগুলির মধ্যে সব রাজ্যে একটি সাধারণ জীবনধারার সৃষ্টি করার লক্ষ্যে এটিকে সাধারণত প্রচার ও প্রচার করা হয়। অনেক ক্ষেত্রে সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়নে বড় শ্রেণির "শ্রেণি শত্রু" গুলাগের শ্রম শিবির এবং নির্বাসিত বন্দোবস্তদের পুনর্বাসনের ব্যবস্থা করা হয়। একটি সংকীর্ণ অর্থে, সোভিয়েত শব্দটি সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়নের জনসংখ্যার মধ্যে মানসিক ও সামাজিক পরিবর্তনের ক্ষেত্রে প্রয়োগ করা হয় এবং এর উপগ্রহগুলি নতুন সোভিয়েত মানুষ বা হোমো সোভিয়েটিকাসের সৃষ্টি করে।
