দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার কয়েকটি প্রজাতি, দক্ষিণ ভারত থেকে ফিলিপিন্স এবং দক্ষিণ চীন পর্যন্ত দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার বিস্তৃত অঞ্চলে মূলত ক্রান্তীয় আফ্রিকাকে দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার পারাপারে এপোসিনিয়েসি পরিবারে 35-40 প্রজাতির ফুলের উদ্ভিদের একটি প্রজাতি। নাম কুমিরের দীর্ঘমেয়াদি উল্লম্ব অংশ থেকে উদ্ভূত হয়, যা এক প্রজাতির 30-35 সেমি দৈর্ঘ্য অর্জন করে। বংশধর ভাইন, ঝোপ এবং ছোট গাছ অন্তর্ভুক্ত। পাতাটি সম্পূর্ণ মার্জিনের সাথে বিপরীত বা উল্লম্ব, সরল বিস্তৃত বৃত্তাকার, 2-20 সেন্টিমিটার দীর্ঘ। আফ্রিকান বংশোদ্ভূতদের বেশ কয়েকটি স্ট্রফথ্যানথসকে তীর বিষের প্রধান উপাদান হিসাবে ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে।
