আপেক্ষিকতার তত্ত্বের মধ্যে, সময়ের ব্যবধান দুটি ইভেন্টের মধ্যবর্তী সময়ের মধ্যে একটি প্রকৃত পার্থক্য হয় যা পরিদর্শক দ্বারা পরিমাপ করা হয় যা একে অপরের সাথে সম্পর্কযুক্ত অথবা মহাকর্ষীয় জনগোষ্ঠীর থেকে ভিন্নভাবে অবস্থিত। একজন পর্যবেক্ষকের সাথে বিশ্রামে একটি সঠিক ঘড়ি দ্বিতীয় পরিদর্শক এর নিজস্ব সমান সঠিক ঘড়ি তুলনায় যখন একটি ভিন্ন হার টিক চিহ্ন পরিমাপ করা যেতে পারে। এই প্রভাব ঘড়িগুলির কারিগরি দিক থেকেও উদ্ভূত হয় না এবং এ থেকে প্রমাণিত হয় যে সংকেতগুলি প্রচারের জন্য সময় প্রয়োজন, কিন্তু স্পেসটাইমের প্রকৃতি থেকে
