ভিজ্যুয়াল আর্টস হল এমন আর্ট ফর্ম যা তৈরি করে এমন কাজ যা মূলত সিরামিক, অঙ্কন, পেইন্টিং, ভাস্কর্য, প্রিন্টিং, ডিজাইন, কারুশিল্প, ফটোগ্রাফি, ভিডিও, চলচ্চিত্র নির্মাণ এবং স্থাপত্যের মত প্রকৃতির দৃশ্যমান। এই সংজ্ঞাগুলি খুব কঠোরভাবে গ্রহণ করা উচিত নয় যেমন অনেক শিল্পসম্মত বিষয়ের মধ্যে ভিজ্যুয়াল আর্টের পাশাপাশি অন্যান্য ধরনের কলা অন্তর্ভুক্ত রয়েছে। এছাড়াও ভিজ্যুয়াল আর্টস মধ্যে অন্তর্ভুক্ত শিল্প যেমন শিল্প নকশা, গ্রাফিক ডিজাইন, ফ্যাশন ডিজাইন, অভ্যন্তর নকশা এবং আলংকারিক শিল্প হিসাবে প্রয়োগ শিল্প। "ভিজ্যুয়াল আর্টস" শব্দটির বর্তমান ব্যবহারটি সূক্ষ্ম শিল্পের পাশাপাশি প্রয়োগ করা, আলংকারিক শিল্প ও কারুশিল্পগুলির অন্তর্ভুক্ত, কিন্তু এটি সবসময়ই ছিল না। বিংশ শতাব্দীর শেষ দিকে ব্রিটেন এবং অন্যত্র আর্টস ও কারুশিল্পের আন্দোলনের আগে 'শিল্পী' শব্দটিকে প্রায়ই শিল্পকর্মের জন্য হস্তান্তরিত, নৈপুণ্য, বা প্রয়োগকৃত আর্ট মিলে কাজ করতে বাধা দেওয়া হয়। শিল্প ও কারুশিল্প আন্দোলনের শিল্পীরা এই পার্থক্যটি জোর দিয়েছিলেন, যা স্থানীয়ভাবে উচ্চতর আকারের রূপের মূল্যকে মূল্যায়ন করেছিল। আর্ট স্কুলগুলি চারুকলা এবং কারুশিল্পের মধ্যবর্তী পার্থক্য বজায় রেখেছিল যে একটি কারিগর শিল্পকর্মের একজন ব্যবসায়ী হিসেবে বিবেচিত হতে পারে না।
