এক্স-রে ক্রিস্টালোগ্রাফি হচ্ছে একটি স্ফটিকের পারমাণবিক এবং আণবিক কাঠামো চিহ্নিতকরণের জন্য ব্যবহৃত একটি হাতিয়ার, যা স্ফটিক্যাল পরমাণুগুলির ঘটনার একটি মরীচি কারণ এক্স রে বিভিন্ন নির্দিষ্ট নির্দেশাবলীতে বিভক্ত। এই diffracted beams কোণ এবং তীব্রতা পরিমাপ দ্বারা, একটি ক্রিস্টালোগ্রাফার স্ফটিক মধ্যে ইলেকট্রন ঘনত্ব একটি ত্রিমাত্রিক ছবি উত্পাদন করতে পারেন। এই ইলেকট্রন ঘনত্ব থেকে স্ফটিকের পরমাণুর গড় পদার্থ নির্ধারণ করা যায়, সেইসাথে তাদের রাসায়নিক বন্ধন, তাদের ব্যাধি এবং বিভিন্ন অন্যান্য তথ্য। যেহেতু অনেক উপকরণ স্ফটিক-যেমন লবণ, ধাতু, খনিজ পদার্থ, সেমিকন্ডাক্টরস, বিভিন্ন অজৈব, জৈব ও জৈবিক অণু-এক্স-রে ক্রিস্টালোগ্রাফিক গঠন করতে পারে তাই অনেক বৈজ্ঞানিক ক্ষেত্রের বিকাশে মৌলিক হয়েছে। ব্যবহারের প্রথম দশকের মধ্যে, এই পদ্ধতিটি পরমাণুগুলির আকার, রাসায়নিক বন্ধনগুলির দৈর্ঘ্য ও প্রকার এবং বিভিন্ন পদার্থের পারমাণবিক-স্কেলের পার্থক্য, বিশেষ করে খনিজ পদার্থ এবং অ্যালোইস নির্ধারণ করে। পদ্ধতিটি অনেক জৈবিক অণুর গঠন এবং কার্যকারিতা প্রকাশ করেছে, যেমন ভিটামিন, ওষুধ, প্রোটিন এবং ডিএনএ হিসাবে নিউক্লিক অ্যাসিড।
