সেল্টস প্রাচীন গোষ্ঠীর গোষ্ঠীগুলি ছিল যার মধ্যে একটি সেল্টিক ভাষা ব্যবহার করা হয়েছিল। একই শব্দটি ব্যবহার করা হয় এমন অন্যান্য ব্যক্তিদের মনোনীত করতে যাদের কথা বলা ভাষা অজানা কিন্তু সেটিটিক বিশ্বের সাথে সাংস্কৃতিক সম্পর্ক রয়েছে, প্রত্নতাত্ত্বিক আবিষ্কারগুলি দ্বারা প্রমাণিত লিঙ্কগুলি। সেল্টিক ভাষা ভাষাগত দলের "কেন্টুম" অংশ। ঐতিহাসিক তত্ত্বগুলি বলছে যে এসব কারণগুলি সাধারণ উৎসকে নির্দেশ করে, তবে স্থানীয় জনগণের উপর সংস্কৃতির প্রভাবের সাম্প্রতিক তত্ত্বগুলি সম্প্রতি জেনেটিকাল স্টাডিজ দ্বারা সমর্থিত। যদিও রোমানরা রোমান সংস্কৃতি গ্রহণের জন্য মহাদেশীয় সেল্টসকে বিজয়ী করে তুলেছে, তবে আয়ারল্যান্ড এবং যুক্তরাজ্যের সেল্টিক খ্রিস্টধর্মের উন্নতির ফলে 400 থেকে 1২00 বছর ধরে সেল্টিক সংস্কৃতির মধ্যযুগীয় পুনর্জাগরণ ঘটেছে। 17 শতকের প্রত্নতত্ত্বের স্বার্থসমূহ "কেল্ট" শব্দটির উন্নয়নের এবং প্রতিশ্রুতির দিকে পরিচালিত করে এবং উনিশ শতকে জাতীয়তাবাদের উন্নয়নে একটি সেল্টিক পুনরুজ্জীবনের সৃষ্টি হয়, যেখানে সেটিটিক ভাষায় এখনও কথা বলা হয়।
