Acetylcholin
Acetylcholin ist ein organisches Molekül, das als Neurotransmitter in vielen Organismen, einschließlich Menschen, wirkt. Es ist ein Ester von Essigsäure und Cholin, mit der chemischen Formel CH 3COO2N + 3 und dem systematischen Namen 2-Acetoxy-N, N, N-trimethylethanaminium. Acetylcholin ist einer von vielen Neurotransmittern im autonomen Nervensystem. Es wirkt sowohl auf das periphere Nervensystem als auch auf das zentrale Nervensystem und ist der einzige Neurotransmitter, der in der motorischen Teilung des somatischen Nervensystems verwendet wird. Acetylcholin ist auch der Hauptneurotransmitter in allen autonomen Ganglien. Im Herzgewebe hat Acetylcholin Neurotransmission eine hemmende Wirkung, die die Herzfrequenz senkt. Allerdings verhält sich Acetylcholin auch als exzitatorischer Neurotransmitter an neuromuskulären Übergängen im Skelettmuskel.
