Addison-Krankheit ist eine seltene, chronische endokrine Störung, bei der die Nebennieren keine ausreichenden Steroidhormone produzieren. Es zeichnet sich durch eine Reihe von relativ unspezifischen Symptomen, wie Bauchschmerzen und Schwäche, aber unter bestimmten Umständen können diese Fortschritte zu Addisonian Krise, eine schwere Erkrankung, die sehr niedrigen Blutdruck und Koma enthalten können. Die Bedingung entsteht durch Probleme mit der Nebenniere, primäre Nebenniereninsuffizienz und kann durch Schäden durch das körpereigene Immunsystem, bestimmte Infektionen oder verschiedene seltenere Ursachen verursacht werden. Die Addison-Krankheit ist auch als chronische primäre adrenokortikale Insuffizienz bekannt, um sie von einer akuten primären adrenokortikalen Insuffizienz zu unterscheiden, die meistens durch das Waterhouse-Friderichsen-Syndrom verursacht wird. Die Addison-Krankheit sollte auch von der sekundären und tertiären Nebenniereninsuffizienz unterschieden werden, die durch einen Mangel an ACTH bzw. CRH verursacht werden. Trotz dieser Unterscheidung können addisonische Krisen in allen Formen der Nebenniereninsuffizienz auftreten. Addison-Krankheit und andere Formen des Hypoadrenalismus werden in der Regel über Blutuntersuchungen und medizinische Bildgebung diagnostiziert.
