Ackee
Der ackee, auch bekannt als achee, ackee apfel oder akee ist ein Mitglied der Sapindaceae, wie die lychee und der longan. Es ist heimisch in tropischen Westafrika in Kamerun, Gabun, São Tomé und Príncipe, Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone und Togo. Der wissenschaftliche Name ehrt den Kapitän William Bligh, der 1793 die Frucht von Jamaika zu den Königlichen Botanischen Gärten in Kew, England nahm und ihn der Wissenschaft vorstellte. Der gemeinsame Name stammt aus dem westafrikanischen Akan akye fufo. Die Frucht wurde vor 1778 aus Westafrika nach Westafrika importiert. Seitdem ist es ein wichtiges Merkmal der verschiedenen karibischen Küchen und wird auch in tropischen und subtropischen Gebieten anderswo auf der ganzen Welt angebaut.
