Albedo
Albedo oder Reflexionskoeffizient, abgeleitet vom lateinischen Albedo "Weiße" wiederum aus Albus "Weiß", ist die diffuse Reflektivität oder reflektierende Kraft einer Oberfläche. Es ist das Verhältnis der reflektierten Strahlung von der Oberfläche zur einfallenden Strahlung auf sie. Seine dimensionslose Natur lässt sie als Prozentsatz ausgedrückt werden und wird auf einer Skala von Null für keine Reflexion einer vollkommen schwarzen Oberfläche auf 1 für eine perfekte Reflexion einer weißen Oberfläche gemessen. Albedo hängt von der Häufigkeit der Strahlung ab. Wenn es unqualifiziert zitiert wird, bezieht es sich in der Regel auf einen angemessenen Durchschnitt über das Spektrum des sichtbaren Lichts. Im Allgemeinen hängt die Albedo von der gerichteten Verteilung der einfallenden Strahlung ab, mit Ausnahme von Lambertschen Oberflächen, die Strahlung in allen Richtungen nach einer Cosinusfunktion streuen und daher eine von der Einfallverteilung unabhängige Albedo haben. In der Praxis kann eine bidirektionale Reflexionsverteilungsfunktion erforderlich sein, um die Streueigenschaften einer Oberfläche genau zu charakterisieren, aber Albedo ist als erste Näherung sehr nützlich.
