Anjou
Anjou ist eine ehemalige Grafschaft, Herzogtum und Provinz zentriert auf der Stadt Angers im unteren Loire-Tal von Westfrankreich. Sein traditioneller lateinischer Name war Andegavia. Anjou war mit der englischen Krone von 1151-1199 vereint, als Heinrich II. Und seinerseits sein Sohn Richard Löwenherz die Grafschaft erbte und damit selbst die Grafen von Anjou wurden. Auf seinem Höhepunkt breitete sich das Angevin-Reich dann von Ulster in die Pyrenäen aus. Aber Richard hatte keine legitime Frage, also im Jahre 1199 Anjou an seinen Neffen, Arthur der Bretagne, während die Krone von England an Henry II. Fünfte Sohn und Richard's jüngster Bruder, John übergeben. Graf Arthur wurde von seinem Onkel John im Jahre 1203 gefangen genommen und unter verdächtigen Umständen verschwunden. Im Jahre 1204 wurde die Grafschaft als Ganzes wiederum von Frankreich beschlagnahmt. Sein Status wurde zu dem eines Herzogtums für Prinz Ludwig, der zweite Sohn von Johannes II von Frankreich, erhöht und blieb als solches bis zur Revolution. Heute entspricht Anjou weitgehend dem heutigen Département von Maine-et-Loire.
