Ein mitotischer Inhibitor ist ein Medikament, das die Mitose oder die Zellteilung hemmt. Mitotische Inhibitoren sind von natürlichen Substanzen wie pflanzlichen Alkaloiden abgeleitet und verhindern, dass Zellen einer Mitose unterzogen werden, indem sie die Mikrotubuluspolymerisation unterbrechen und so das Krebswachstum verhindern. Mikrotubuli sind lange, ropelartige Proteine, die sich durch die Zelle erstrecken und zelluläre Komponenten umziehen. Mikrotubuli sind lange Polymere aus kleineren Einheiten des Proteintubulus. Mikrotubuli werden bei normalen Zellfunktionen durch Zusammenbau von Tubulinkomponenten erzeugt und werden zerlegt, wenn sie nicht mehr benötigt werden.
