Franz Brentano schreibt in The True und The Evident, "Urteile können entweder assertorisch oder apodiktisch sein. Assertorische Urteile sind Urteile, die möglicherweise wahr sind, aber unbewiesen sind." Apodiktische Urteile sind Urteile, die eindeutig beweisbar und logisch sicher sind. Zum Beispiel ist "Zwei plus zwei gleich vier" apodiktisch. "Chicago ist größer als Omaha" ist assertorisch. "Ein Unternehmen könnte reicher sein als ein Land" ist problematisch. In der aristotelischen Logik ist "apodiktisch" gegen "Dialektik", da der wissenschaftliche Beweis dem wahrscheinlichen Denken entgegensteht. Kant kontrastiert "apodiktisch" mit "problematisch" und "assertorisch" in der Kritik der reinen Vernunft, auf Seite A70 / B95.
