Art Deco
Art Deco oder Deco ist ein einflussreicher visueller Kunstentwurfsstil, der erstmals nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg in Frankreich erschien und in den 1920er, 1930er und 1940er Jahren international blühte, bevor seine Popularität nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg abnahm. Es ist ein eklektischer Stil, der traditionelle Handwerksmotive mit Machine Age Bilder und Materialien verbindet. Der Stil zeichnet sich oft durch reiche Farben, kräftige geometrische Formen und aufwendige Verzierungen aus. Deco entstand aus der Zwischenkriegszeit, als die rasche Industrialisierung Kultur umwandelte. Eines seiner Hauptattribute ist eine Umarmung der Technik. Das unterscheidet Deco von den organischen Motiven, die von seinem Vorgänger Art Nouveau begünstigt werden. Historiker Bevis Hillier definierte Art Deco als "ein durchsetzungsfähiger moderner Stil lief auf Symmetrie statt Asymmetrie, und auf die geradlinige eher als die curvilinear, es reagierte auf die Anforderungen der Maschine und des neuen Materials die Anforderungen der Massenproduktion". Während seiner Blütezeit repräsentierte Art Deco Luxus, Glamour, Überschwang und Glauben an den sozialen und technologischen Fortschritt.
